Another swede!

This time I sweded Back To The Future Part 2 with my friends Loren and Lauren. They’re a super cool couple out of Dinuba with a huge love of BTTF.

We’re going to try to do BTTF3 next. And maybe I’ll ask Jason to bring his Delorean next time.

This hilarious video was written by Bert Aguilar. I’m so glad he let me direct and edit it.

I used my T2i with a Nikon 55mm 2.8f macro for a majority of the shots. All the movement was done with the Kessler PB Pocket Dolly. The camera and the dolly was supported by the Sachtler Ace.

We’re going to try to post videos more regularly, we’ll see how that goes.

W.E.B. Episode 13 »

The penultimate episode of Who Eats Brunch has nearly everything. Breaking of the 4th wall, strippers, and a cameo from yours truly (of course I get the cameo in the episode with strippers, my gf is pissed). Bo even got a friend to dress up like Hootz (http://www.ridingiswriting.com/ I didn’t write the episode, A, I hope you’re enjoying it and not upset).

And that wraps my involvement with WEB. It was a strange and silly ride. There’s one last episode and it’s already in the can, but I wasn’t there for the shoot. Now for the next adventure.

1 note

This is my entry for the second Germ. I was really excited to do this because of three things: the premise of the Germ is totally cool, I think I had a really cleaver idea, and my buddy Drew (youtube.com/Arachnoguy) said I could use him and his shiny new 5DmkIIIs for the shoot.

We shot this on the 5Ds with the Laforet/Prolost Neutral picture profile since I didn’t have the updated Canon Utility on my computer, but I wanted to shoot this on the Cinestyle profile. Most of the shots are on Drew’s awesome Zeiss 50mm, but the stuff out and about was on my Canon 50mm, because it was raining that day and I didn’t want anything to happen to the Zeiss. The slow motion (720p 60fps) drinking and pouring was shot with my Nikon 55mm macro.

The 5DmkIII is a very slick camera and I enjoyed shooting with it immensely. I got to shoot a little bit of footage with it although Drew handled the camera operation for the most part. The image out of the camera is quite an upgrade from the 2008 circa HDSLRs (5DmkII-60D).

I edited this in FCPX and half way through my edit, I purchased the Color Grading Central Cinelook plugin. It went on sale just for the week of NAB and I had really liked how Phil Arntz used it in Woodcutter (https://vimeo.com/35809557). I didn’t really consider doing a 2.35:1 aspect ratio for this video until I started editing, but I think it benefits from this wide perspective and Cinelook really helped with that. The only thing that Cinelook does that I don’t care for is it’s “Color Treatment,” I turned it off for almost every clip, with the exception of Bert spinning around in the chair at the beginning.

Overall, I’m very happy with how this turned out especially since I was playing with a lot of new gear. The video played to a full house at the Windsong office with all the other Germ 2 videos. I really wish I could have gone to see the reactions, but I had to work.

W.E.B. Episode 10 »

This is another Who Eats Brunch episode. And actually Roger shot most of this episode. I shot some of the pie throwing shots at the end and I’m pretty proud of them.

The pie throwing was shot on a 60D with a 24-104L 4f. The video watching sequences were shot with a 11-16mm Tamron (I think).

Tonight I’m going to go help shoot the final episode. It’s been a crazy ride, but the Brunch/Di60Y guys are fun bunch.

W.E.B. Episode 7 »

Here’s another Who Eats Brunch video I helped out with.

It’s a little crazy and very funny (to me at least).

Here’s the first proper video I shot with the NEX-5N. I was just going to hold on to it since it’s nothing crazy, but I figured I’d share it anyway.

Who Eats Brunch Episode 3 »

Here’s another thing I shot about two weeks ago.

I mainly shot this all on the NEX 5N with the kit lens or a Nikon 55mm 2.8f macro. I deeply apologize for the super shaky shot at the beginning; I was hand holding the NEX and had a mic boom pole under my arm. I was quite literally a one-man crew that day.

Other than the shaky handheld stuff, I’m pretty proud of this little video. Although the jokes weren’t mine, I feel like it’s a really funny video.

1 note

I shot this earlier this week for CMT’s Yo, Vikings! production that opens this weekend. It’s about a grade school girl with a very active imagination and a fascination with vikings.

I mainly shot this with the T2i with a 50mm 1.8f and the Edirol R09 for audio. I did use the NEX 5N with a Nikon 135mm 2.8f for some of the tripod shots. I’m finding it really difficult to get the white balance to match on the T2i and NEX, even if I match with Kelvin numbers on the NEX. Oh well.

The shots that sync up with the songs were shot out in the audience seating on a tripod and all the other shots were from the orchestra pit. I should have taken a tripod down into the pit, but I just took the Zacuto Z-Finder. I was way too tired to get enough stable shots.

I used FCPX’s stabilization to clean up the handheld shots and it worked fairly well. It actually adds a level of dreaminess to the very imaginative/dream scenes, which was totally unintentional.
